About Stephen Snyder MD
Dr Snyder has specialized in sex and relationship therapy for over 25 years in Manhattan, and has helped over 1,500 individuals and couples regain closeness and satisfcation in their relationships. He has worked for years to develop more effective approaches for individuals and couples where traditional psychotherapy, couples therapy, or medical treatment have not been successful.He works with men, women, and couples of all sexual orientations, and often serves as a consultant to other therapists and health care providers in complex situations.
Dr. Snyder has been in full-time private practice on Manhattan’s Upper West Side since 2000, specializing in sex and relationship therapy. He has been named a New York Magazine “Best Doctor” every year since 2012.
Experience and Training
Dr Snyder is currently Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, where he regularly lectures on topics in human sexuality and sex therapy. He has given talks nationwide on sex and relationships, and has been an invited speaker and workshop leader at national meetings of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR) and other organizations. His insights on sexuality in the modern world have been widely sought in the media, and have established him as one of the freshest and most original writers in the sex field today.
Dr Snyder received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco (M.D. 1983). He was an intern at Mt Zion Medical Center, San Francisco (1983-84). After psychiatry residency at the Payne Whitney Clinic, New York Hospital / Cornell University Medical Center (1984-87) and fellowship in Behavioral Medicine and Consultation Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC (1987-89), he served as Director of the Psychiatric Consultation Service at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1990-2000, where he worked closely with faculty in the departments of neurology and urology. Dr Snyder has been an invited discussant for grand rounds in the Department of Psychiatry of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and continues to teach residents and medical students at Mount Sinai on topics related to human sexuality.

He is an active member of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR); has been a presenter, workshop leader, and discussant at the Society’s national meetings; has served on both its Professional Book Award and Consumer Book Award committees; and since 2012 has been Chairman of the SSTAR Consumer Book Award Committee.
Dr. Snyder lives in New York City with his wife and children.
